Details:
Recognizing the economic challenges faced by widows and vulnerable women, RACHAM Foundation implemented a comprehensive Skills Acquisition and Empowerment Programme in Azhi-Bisa Community, Tafa Local Government Area of Niger State. The initiative was designed to provide widows with practical vocational skills that would enable them to establish sustainable sources of income and improve their standard of living.
Participants received intensive training in soap-making, pastry production, and tailoring. These skills were selected based on their profitability, accessibility, and potential for immediate application within local markets. The training sessions combined practical demonstrations, hands-on participation, and business-oriented guidance to ensure beneficiaries could confidently apply their newly acquired skills.
The programme also served as a platform for encouraging social support and resilience among widows, many of whom face significant economic and emotional burdens. Through empowerment and capacity-building, the initiative helped restore hope and strengthen the ability of participants to provide for themselves and their families.
Beneficiaries: A total of 399 widows received vocational training and empowerment support through the programme.
